My Thoughts On Local Music! (Specifically in Hamilton!)

Live music! New experiences! New ideas! Hamilton has a huge local music scene with fantastic bands of all ages and sounds. There are many hidden gems in this city, so I strongly encourage you: the next time you see a poster for a band show you’ve never heard of, take a chance on it. Set aside a Friday or Saturday night and explore some Hamilton music, I can almost guarantee you won’t regret it. The atmosphere at most of these shows could be described as the most popular “secret” club you could join. It is a contribution to the culture of this great city.

Every band I’ve seen play in Hamilton I have enjoyed sincerely. To name a few, some of those bands include Superstar Crush, Top Lobby, White Rabbit, The Lowest of the Low and of course the hit band Smit. Perhaps this is just my love for all music genres poking through, but I have never once been let down by a local band, and I have a sneaking suspicion that you won't be either.

All the photographs included in my blog/corresponding Instagram post were taken by me at a beloved local venue, The Casbah. Unfortunately, the venue is being demolished, to my incredible dismay. So many of us have heavy hearts watching it go, I have made so many memories there over the past two years; I’ve seen a friends perform, new and upcoming local music, and made lifelong friendships in that place. It will forever live on in our hearts, photographs, and memories, and I wanted to leave some photos on my Instagram for the public to be forever reminded of The Casbah.

Smit, one of the local bands, hired me to take photos of one of their shows for them, and because of that, I got a closer look at just how amazing the local music community is and how it operates. Shout out to them! They describe themselves as Post Basement Punk, and if that sounds intriguing, give their song "Love Sparks" a listen! As a freelance photographer, I’m always grateful for business, and I am so thankful for the opportunity they gave me. It was an all-around enjoyable and exciting experience.

The takeaway here is, support local art, music, and community. It only generates love, happiness, and more connections!
